Lag
Also called: Lag for break, Lagging
What is the lag in pool?
The lag decides who breaks: both players shoot a ball from behind the head string to the foot rail and back, and the ball that stops closest to the head rail wins. It is also the best pure speed-control test in pool.
In more detail
Losing the lag is losing the break, which matters in alternate-break or winner-break formats. Practising lags trains the rail-speed feel you use in every position shot.
People also ask
What makes you lose the lag?
Under most rules: the ball touches the side rails, crosses into the opponent's half, or goes into a pocket.
