Position zone
Also called: Shape zone, Landing zone
What is a position zone in pool?
A position zone is the area where the cue ball can stop and still leave a good shot on the next ball. Aiming for a zone instead of an exact spot gives you room for error in speed and direction.
In more detail
Zones are larger when you approach along their long axis — so send the cue ball through the zone lengthways, not across it. That one idea makes position much more consistent.
People also ask
How big should a position zone be?
As big as possible while still giving a comfortable shot — often a strip several diamonds long if you enter it along the line.
