Problem ball
What is a problem ball in pool?
A problem ball is a ball that cannot be pocketed easily from its current position — in a cluster, blocked, frozen to a rail or with no clear pocket. Good players solve problem balls early while they still have options.
In more detail
In 8-ball, a single problem ball often decides whether to run out or play safe. Count your problem balls before shooting the first ball.
