Cluster
Also called: Clump
How do you break up clusters in pool?
A cluster is a group of touching or near-touching balls that cannot be pocketed directly. You break it out by pocketing a nearby ball and sending the cue ball into the cluster at controlled speed, ideally while keeping position.
Step by step
- 1Identify which balls are tied up and where they need to go.
- 2Choose a ball you can pot that sends the cue ball into the cluster.
- 3Aim for the cluster's softest, most open side.
- 4Use medium speed so the balls spread but the cue ball stays controlled.
In more detail
The best break-outs hit the cluster from a side that spreads balls toward open pockets and away from your next shot. Too much speed scatters balls onto rails; too little leaves them tied up.
People also ask
Should I break clusters early in 8-ball?
Yes, if you can do it safely. Waiting usually leaves fewer options later.
