Soft break
Also called: Cut break, Control break
What is a soft break in pool?
A soft break uses less power and precise cue-ball placement to pocket a specific ball (such as the wing ball in 9-ball or 10-ball) while keeping the cue ball controlled. It trades spread for predictability.
In more detail
It works best on tight racks and is common in 9-ball and 10-ball. Practise one soft-break pattern until you know which ball drops most often on that table.
People also ask
Is a soft break legal?
Yes, as long as it meets the break requirement of the rule set (for example in 9-ball, a ball must be pocketed or at least four balls must reach a cushion).
