Backswing
How long should the backswing be in pool?
The backswing is the part of the stroke where you draw the cue back before delivering it. Its length should match the speed you need: short for soft shots, longer for power — so that you can accelerate smoothly instead of forcing or decelerating.
In more detail
A backswing that is too long for a soft shot tempts you to slow down into the ball, which causes misses and poor draw. A backswing that is too short for a power shot makes you punch. Match length to speed and keep the transition slow.
People also ask
Why do I hit the ball off line on the backswing?
Usually the elbow or shoulder moves sideways, or the grip tightens. Film your stroke from behind to check.
