Break cue
Also called: Breaker, Break/jump cue
What is a break cue?
A break cue is a separate cue used for the opening break. It usually has a very hard tip (often phenolic) and a stiff shaft so the energy goes into the cue ball instead of compressing the tip — and your playing tip is not damaged.
In more detail
A good break comes from accuracy and cue-ball control more than raw power. Many players break better at 80% speed with a centered hit than at full power with a cue ball that flies off the table.
People also ask
Can I break with my playing cue?
Yes, it is legal, but repeated hard breaks wear and flatten a soft playing tip and can change your cue's feel.
