Call shot
Also called: Calling the shot
What does call shot mean in pool?
Call shot means you must indicate which ball you intend to pot and in which pocket. If the ball goes elsewhere, it does not count and your turn ends. Under WPA 8-ball rules, obvious shots need not be called.
In more detail
Most rule sets do not require calling kisses, rails or combinations — just ball and pocket. You can also call 'safety' so that a pocketed ball does not keep you at the table.
People also ask
Do you need to call obvious shots?
Under WPA rules, no — only when the ball and pocket are not obvious. League and bar rules may require calling everything.
