8-ball
Also called: Eight ball, 8 ball pool
What are the basic rules of 8-ball?
8-ball is played with 15 object balls: solids (1–7), stripes (9–15) and the black 8. Each player pockets their group, then legally pockets the 8 to win. Pocketing the 8 early or scratching on it loses the game.
In more detail
After the break the table is 'open' until a player legally pots a ball of a group. Under WPA rules you call the ball and pocket for non-obvious shots and any foul gives ball in hand anywhere. Bar and league rules vary, especially about the break and scratch rules.
