Bridge

Also called: Bridge hand

What is a bridge in pool?

The bridge is the front hand that supports and guides the cue. The two main types are the open bridge, where the cue rests in a V between thumb and index finger, and the closed bridge, where the index finger loops over the cue.

In more detail

A solid bridge is planted flat, with the heel of the hand on the cloth, and does not move during the stroke. Bridge length — the distance from bridge to cue ball — is usually 6–9 inches for normal shots; shorter for delicate or rail shots.

People also ask

How far should my bridge be from the cue ball?

About 6–9 inches for a normal shot. Shorten it for soft or precise shots and lengthen it slightly for power shots.
