Outside english

What is outside english in pool?

Outside english is sidespin on the side away from the cut — left english on a cut to the right. It reduces or cancels collision-induced throw and makes the cue ball come off the rail with a wider angle.

In more detail

A little outside english is a common tool on thin cuts, because it counteracts throw and helps the object ball travel on the true cut line.

People also ask

Does outside english help cut shots?

On many cuts it reduces throw, so the ball goes closer to the aimed line. You still need to adjust for squirt.
