Running english
What is running english in pool?
Running english is sidespin that turns in the direction the cue ball is traveling along a cushion, so the ball rebounds at a wider angle and with more speed. It is the opposite of reverse english.
In more detail
It is useful for opening angles off a rail and getting the cue ball around the table. It also makes cushion contact more predictable on many kick shots.
People also ask
Is running english the same as outside english?
On a cut shot, outside english often becomes running english off the next rail, but the terms describe different things: one refers to the cut, the other to the cushion.
