Piston stroke
What is a piston stroke in pool?
A piston stroke lets the elbow drop during the forward stroke so the cue travels in a straighter, more level line, like a piston. It requires good timing, because the shoulder and elbow move together.
In more detail
Done well, it keeps the tip on line through contact. Done badly, the elbow drops sideways and the cue steers. Use slow-motion video to confirm that the elbow drops straight down, not across.
People also ask
Is dropping my elbow a fault?
Not by itself. It becomes a fault when it happens early, before contact, or moves the cue off line.
