Scratch
Also called: In-off
What is a scratch in pool?
A scratch is pocketing the cue ball (or the cue ball leaving the table). It is a foul: the opponent gets ball in hand, and scratching while pocketing the 8 in 8-ball loses the game.
In more detail
Most scratches can be predicted with the tangent line and the 30° rule. Before shooting, trace the cue ball's path toward pockets and adjust spin or speed.
People also ask
How do I stop scratching?
Check the cue ball's path with the tangent line before every shot. Use draw, follow or speed to move it off the scratch line.
