Chalk
Why do pool players use chalk?
Chalk is an abrasive compound applied to the cue tip to increase friction between tip and cue ball. Without it, any hit away from center slides off the ball and miscues.
In more detail
Brush the chalk across the tip lightly, covering the full surface; do not grind the tip into the cube. Excess chalk lands on the cue ball and causes skids and unexpected throw, so clean balls play more predictably.
People also ask
Does chalk help with draw shots?
Yes — maximum draw needs a tip offset near the miscue limit, and fresh chalk is what lets the tip grip at that offset.
