Open bridge

Also called: V bridge

When should I use an open bridge?

An open bridge rests the cue in a V formed by the thumb pressed against the base of the index finger, with the hand flat on the cloth. It gives a clear view of the cue line and is preferred for most shots, especially by beginners and for draw shots.

In more detail

Raise or lower the V by cupping the hand to change tip height. It is less secure than a closed bridge on power shots, so keep the cue pressed gently into the V and the stroke smooth.

Do pro players use an open bridge?

Many do, especially in modern American pool. Choose by stability and comfort, not by what looks professional.
