Push shot
What is a push shot foul?
A push shot is keeping the tip on the cue ball for an extended time and pushing it, rather than striking it. It is a foul under most rules — it differs from the 9-ball 'push out', which is a legal option.
In more detail
Push shots usually happen on very soft or close shots. A short, crisp stroke prevents them.
People also ask
Is push out the same as push shot?
No. A push out is a legal 9-ball option after the break; a push shot is an illegal stroke.
