Squirt
Also called: Cue ball deflection, Deflection
What is squirt in pool?
Squirt (cue-ball deflection) is the cue ball being pushed slightly off the cue's line in the direction opposite to the english you apply. More english, a heavier shaft tip end and longer distances make squirt more noticeable.
In more detail
Squirt combines with swerve and throw to decide where the object ball goes with english. Low-deflection shafts reduce it; back-hand english and parallel english are methods to compensate.

Why do I miss when I use english?
Mostly squirt and swerve. The cue ball starts off line, then curves; at different distances and speeds the total effect changes. Practise the shots you use most.
